My Approach
While I am registered with PACFA in Australia as a Counsellor, my UK-based training in Counselling and Psychotherapy strongly informs how I work. I take an integrative psychotherapeutic approach, with Gestalt therapy as my primary modality, drawing on psychodynamic, person-centred, and CBT perspectives. This allows therapy to remain responsive and adaptable to your individual needs.
My work is grounded in the belief that therapy is a relational, collaborative process rather than a set of techniques, quick solutions, or a fixed agenda. I work in a way that allows exploration and understanding to emerge over time, guided by what feels meaningful and useful for you.
I typically work longer term, as many difficulties are rooted in earlier relational experiences and long-standing patterns of adaptation. The focus is on understanding rather than blame, recognising how patterns developed, how they once served a purpose, and how they continue to influence the present. At the same time, the length and focus of therapy are shaped collaboratively, based on your needs, goals, and preferences.
My work is trauma-informed and neuroaffirming. I recognise that people experience emotions and bodily sensations in many different ways, and that noticing or naming them can sometimes be difficult. Therapy invites gentle exploration of these experiences in ways that feel safe and supportive for you. This may include attention to the body, creative expression through art or writing, reflection on dreams, or other approaches tailored to your needs. Together, we move at a pace guided by your comfort, informed consent, and what best supports your understanding and growth.
Ethical practice, clinical supervision, personal therapy and continual professional development, are central to how I work. I remain open to being challenged and to questioning my own assumptions and biases as part of responsible and reflective therapeutic practice.
